Now in her
forties, Françoise has always been an extensive traveler. Through
more than fifteen years working for a humanitarian agency, she was
able to live in many different places, from South America to Central
Africa, and from the Middle East to South Asia.
During
these years, she often turned to glass painting as a hobby, trying
to capture the spirit and colours of the places she lived in.
In
1997, on her way to a more settled life in Argentina, she turned to
flameworking, producing her first beads and necklaces, for herself,
her family and friends. Soon, she started to work part-time, to be
able to dedicate more of her time to her work with glass.
She
attended training courses at The
Studio of the Corning Museum of Glass (Corning, N.Y.), in
particular with Pati
Walton and Loren Stump, and in the Escuela
del Vidrio of the Real Fábrica de Cristales de La Granja
(Segovia, Spain) with Arturo Lagüarta. By 1999, she had her own
small workshop in Madrid (Spain), and her work was reaching beyond
friends and family.
But
Françoise is always in a traveling mood. In early 2001 she left
again. After two years in Africa, she is now back to Europe, awash
with new ideas.
